Bill (me), a mad rugby fan & referee

Traditionally trained in Torquay in the late 70's, I went on to become a manager at age 21.

From there I worked for Bass leisure running multi facet complexs in Leicester & Torquay

Followed by 5 years as a manager of the Berni Empires flagships in Weston & Windsor

Then Harvester & Travelodge beckoned for 5 years as a Manager & Area Manager

A move as an area manager to Old English Inns & Greene King kept me busy for another 9 years.

A brief spell at Banks followed.

My personal aim was to always recruit, motivate & develop all my managers & staff.

So the change to running my own training company was a great natural next step!!

I have 2 adult daughters and of course a cheeky 10 year old!!

About Us

Both of our coaches are experienced in the Hospitality business and in a management capacity, they spent their career developing people and now are here to develop you!!!

They are approved by the BIIAB.

Jackie Mercer

After 20 years as a hotel & training manager for various companies Old English Inns, Marstons, Greene King -fighting the system of always putting training low on their agenda, I joined Bill in setting up Live & learn.

Despite limited resources I had just won HCTC trainer of the year award, this was a natural progression for my passion.

Our 2 big girls although based in Reading pop home on a regular basis for some home cooking and some much missed teasing time with our little girl, 10 year old Annie.

Whilst I have to endure Bill getting violent with the telly every time rugby is on, he in turn had to learn all about the subtleties of Cricket !!
